Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Erick Mejia was signed by the Seattle Mariners as a 17-year-old amateur free agent before the 2012 season. He played in the Mariners' organization until 2015, and while he did reach the AAA level with the Tacoma Rainiers in 2015, it was only for five games. The remainder of his time was spent at the Rookie and Class A levels. He did put up good batting averages, of .282 and .283, in three consecutive seasons from 2013 to 2015, although this was in limited playing time as he never played more than 51 games, or had even 200 at-bats in any one year.

On January 12, 2016, Mejia was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in return for P Joe Wieland. he played his first fuill minor league season that year, with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League, where he hit .287 in 124 games, with 18 doubles, 12 triples and 4 homers. He also scored 78 runs and stole 24 bases. In 2017, he began the year at Rancho Cucamonga but was promoted to the Tulsa Drillers of the AA Texas League after 24 games. In AA, he hit .289 in 102 games, scoring 61 runs. He also appeared in one game with the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers, but did not have an at-bat. On January 4, 2018, he was involved in the second trade of his young career, being sent to the Kansas City Royals along with P Trevor Oaks in return for two big league relievers, Scott Alexander and Joakim Soria.
