Biographical Information

Enrique Quintanilla has been a professional baseball pitcher in a span covering over 15 years. His record is 68-102 through 2009.

Quintanilla broke in as a 17-year-old with the 1994 Nuevo Laredo Owls, going 1-1 with a 6.33 ERA and allowing 39 hits in 27 innings. He was 2-2 with a save and a 7.04 ERA in 33 games in 1995. In 1996, the right-hander improved to 6-7, 5.64 with a save. He was primarily a starting pitcher by 1997, when he had a 6-13, Sv, 4.49 record for Nuevo Laredo.

In 1998, Enrique was 4-12 despite a 4.48 ERA, his best yet to that point. During 1999, the 22-year-old had a 5-8, 5.26 record. Back in the bullpen for most of 2000, he pitched 51 games and was 9-13 with a 6.03 ERA. He was 1-6 with a 3.70 ERA in 2001.

In late 2001, Quintanilla went to the Taiwan Major League's Taichung Agan and posted a 4-2, 4.01 record. He went 14-3 with a 3.70 ERA in 2002, the TML's last year. He was two wins shy of the league leader Chin-Chih Huang. In game 5 of the finals, he teamed with Huang to lead the Agan to the championship.

Quintanilla resurfaced in 2004 as a closer for the Tijuana Toros, going 6-2 with 11 saves and a 3.46 ERA. With the 2005 Oaxaca Warriors, Enrique was 4-3 with 8 saves and a 5.25 ERA. In 2006, he went 8-7 with a 4.50 ERA for Oaxaca. He followed that with a 8-8, 4.49 campaign. He fell to 1-8, 8.95 in 2008 with 101 hits in 61 1/3 IP.

Quintanilla made a major turnaround in 2009. Now back with Nuevo Laredo, he was 6-7 with a 2.48 ERA and was third in the Mexican League in ERA behind Francisco Campos and Juan Pablo Oramas. That won a spot on Mexico's roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
