Biographical Information[edit]
Enrique Gonzalez was signed out of Venezuela in 1998 by scout Carlos Porte for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He made his pro debut the next summer with the DSL Diamondbacks. Gonzalez worked his way through the Diamondbacks' system and made his major league debut in 2006. He played in the major leagues each year from 2006-2011, but split each season between the majors and minors. Gonzalez left the Diamondbacks in 2008 and played for the San Diego Padres (2008), Boston Red Sox (2009), and Detroit Tigers (2010-2011). For the major league portion of his career, Gonzalez had a 4-8 record with a 5.81 ERA while appearing in 55 games (18 starts).
Gonzalez joined the Los Angeles Angels organization in 2017 as a pitching coach for the DSL Angels. He remains in that position through the 2024 season.
During the winter months Gonzalez has enjoyed warm weather while coaching the Tiburones de La Guaira in the Venezuelan League. He was the team's bullpen coach during the 2017/2018 and 2020/2021 seasons. He started 2021 in the same role, but took over as pitching coach on November 25, 2021 when the team fired manager Dennis Malave, bench coach Jose Moreno, and pitching coach Rigo Beltran. Gonzalez returned to his bullpen coaching role for the 2022/2023 season. In 2023/2024 he started the year as a Tiburones coaching assistant, but returned to the position of bullpen coach on December 2nd following a number of coaching changes.
