Biographical Information[edit]

California native Emmett O'Neill spent ten active seasons in professional baseball from 1940 to 1950. After signing as an amateur free agent with the Boston Red Sox in 1940, he spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues from 1943 to 1946.

O'Neill made his big league debut with the Boston Red Sox on August 3, 1943 and established a 15-26 record while pitching 351 innings in 63 appearances over three seasons for the Red Sox before being selected off waivers by the Chicago Cubs from the on March 29, 1946. O'Neill was then selected off waivers by the Chicago White Sox from the Cubs on April 23rd of the same year.

With both the Cubs and the White Sox Emmett had no decisions, appearing in just 6 games that gave him an overall major league career record of 15 wins and 26 losses and a 4.76 ERA.

Emmett spent eight seasons with nine different teams in seven different leagues during his tour in the minor leagues. In 1942 he went 7-7 in a split season with the Louisville Colonels of the American Association and the Toronto Maple Leafs of the International League. He closed out his minor league career in 1950 in another split season, going 9-10 for the Danville Leafs of the Carolina League and the Shreveport Sports of the Texas League. This was his finale in professional baseball, ending his minor league time with a 29-31 record while pitching 623 innings in 124 games.

O'Neill worked in the Nevada gaming industry from 1955 until retiring in 1992. He managed Stateline Country in Lake Tahoe, NV and worked 12 years for the Regency Casino in Laughlin, NV and was a co-owner of the Silver Club in Sparks, NV and the River Inn at Reno, NV. Emmett died at the age of 75 on October 11, 1993 at the Sparks Family Hospital in Sparks.
