Biographical Information

Eldridge Mayweather played for almost a decade in the Negro Leagues, making two All-Star teams.

Mayweather broke in with the 1934 Monroe Monarchs. He became starting first baseman of the Kansas City Monarchs in 1935. He hit .281 in 1937 and made the 1937 East-West Game. Pinch-hitting for Ted Trent in the third inning, he was retired by Barney Morris in a 7-2 loss to the East.

Ed backed up Buck O'Neil in 1938. Moving to the St. Louis Stars in 1939, he hit .221 but led the Negro American League with three homers. He fell to .095 with the 1940 New Orleans-St. Louis Stars. He somehow made the 1940 East-West Game. Starting at first base for the West and hitting third, he went 1 for 3 with a walk in a shutout loss.

Mayweather hit .242 for the Stars in 1941, then wrapped up with the New York Black Yankees in 1942.
