Biographical Information[edit]

Eitan Maoz starred for Israel in the 2011 European Championship Qualifiers.

Maoz had Tommy John surgery as a college freshman at Marshalltown Community College, but hit .405 as a sophomore at Genesee Community College. Transferring to UNC Pembroke for 2011, he batted .327/.424/.427 as the starting catcher. He also played for the Ottawa Fat Cats in the Intercounty Baseball League in 2010-2011. In the 2011 European Championship Qualifiers, Maoz was 3 for 4 against Lithuania. In the final series against Great Britain, he went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI to lead Israel to a game one win. In game two, with a win locking up a spot in the 2012 European Championship (it would have been a first for Israel), Maoz drove in Oren Gal with the first run off Alex Smith. Unfortunately, Israel fell, 5-2. Maoz had hit .474/.542/.579 with 7 RBI in the five-game series. He was 5th in average, 7th in slugging, tied for 4th in OBP with former Giants farmhand Aaron Hornostaj, second to Hornostaj in hits, tied with former minor leaguer Aeden McQueary-Ennis for the most RBI, was third in steals (3) and tied McQueary-Ennis for second with 11 total bases.
