Edwin Walker has had a winding minor league career.

Walker was picked by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 9th round of the 2002 amateur draft. He struck out 14 in 10 2/3 innings that year for the AZL Brewers, going 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA. Early in his Brewers career, he had Tommy John surgery, though. In 2003, he was 0-2 with a 5.54 ERA for the AZL Brewers. Moving up to the 2004 Helena Brewers, he posted a 4-2, 5.57 record. He then missed three years due to rotator cuff problems. At age 24, he was getting long in the tooth by minor league standards, but did not give up.

Signing with the independent Chillicothe Paints for 2008, Walker was 5-3 with six saves and a 1.79 ERA, fanning 51 but walking 33 in 45 1/3 innings and allowing just 25 hits. He started 2009 with the Gary SouthShore RailCats, going 3-0 with 3 saves, a 3.26 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings. Despite his advanced age, that drew the interest of the New York Yankees, who signed him. Sent to the Charleston RiverDogs, he was 2-0 with a save, 0.78 ERA and .78 WHIP.

A free agent, Walker inked a deal with the Houston Astros for 2010. They split his time (through late August) between the Corpus Christi Hooks and Lancaster Jethawks. on August 25, he was part of a rare five-man no-hitter for Lancaster against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Relieving Robert Donovan in the 6th, he kept the no-no going before turning it over to David Berner.
