The Edmonton Cracker-Cats began play as an expansion team in the independent Northern League in 2005. Led by former big league skipper Terry Bevington, they posted a 47-48 record in their first season. The Cracker-Cats played their home games at Telus Field. At the end of the 2007 season, Edmonton and the Calgary Vipers announced that they were leaving the Northern League and joining the Golden Baseball League. They were renamed the Edmonton Capitals in 2009.
