Biographical Information[edit]

Edgardo Fermín has played in the minors and for the Venezuelan national team. He is the brother of Freddy Fermín. [1]

He was signed by New York Mets scouts Nestor Moreno and Héctor Rincones. [2] He hit .262/.382/.317 with 33 runs in 47 games for the 2015 DSL Mets 1, used as a middle infielder. Returning to them the next year, he batted .230/.355/.316 and went 10-for-12 in steals, fielding .985 at 2B. He split 2017 between the Brooklyn Cyclones (.219/.296/.301 in 23 G) and the Kingsport Mets (.352/.425/.451 in 17 G). With the 2018 Columbia Fireflies, he started at short regularly, hitting .210/.261/.343. His 7 triples tied John Mora and Matt Winaker for 3rd in the Mets organization and tied for 5th in the South Atlantic League.

Fermín was with the 2019 St. Lucie Mets (.258/.307/.359 in 37 G) and Binghamton Rumble Ponies (.314/.390/.457 in 14 G). The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He bounced around in 2021, with stops for the FCL Mets (3-for-10, 4 BB, 2B, 5 R in 4 G), St. Lucie (.222/.417/.389 in 5 G), Brooklyn (.232/.349/.375 in 16 G) and Binghamton (.200/.213/.300 in 18 G). He was 0 for 8 for the Astronautas de Los Santos in the 2022 Caribbean Series, backing up Edgar Muñoz at 2B. He debuted in his native Venezuelan League in the winter of 2022-2023, hitting .130/.167/.196 in 21 games as a utility man for the Caribes de Anzoategui.

During the 2023 Pan American Games, he started in right for Venezuela. He was retired by Felipe Natel of Brazil, and finished the Games 1-for-10; his hit came off Cuba's Yankiel Mauris. [3]
