Biographical Information

Infielder Eddie Turchin spent eight active seasons in professional baseball from 1937 to 1947. Turchin had one shot at the Major Leagues with the Cleveland Indians. He was on the big league roster for 22 days from May 9, 1943 to May 31, appearing in eleven games with thirteen at-bats, picking up three base-hits for a .211 average. Playing in the infield he had one error in fifteen chances for a .933 fielding percentage.

Turchin spent the rest of his pro career in the minor leagues. His best numbers came with the 1939 Batavia Clippers, in the class D Pony League, when he appeared in 104 games and hit at a .285 clip with 108 base-hits in 379 at-bats. He fielded the shortstop position at a .929 percentage.

He appeared in his highest class of minor league baseball with the AAA Indianapolis Indians of the American Association in 1946. He hit at a .247 clip in 83 games and fielded the infield slots at a .937 percentage. Turchin finished up his minor league career appearing in 663 games with 2,299 at-bats and 579 base-hits for a .252 batting average. He had a .949 career fielding percentage, all his games being played in three infield spots.

Turchin started his career as a twenty year old player manager of the 1937 Dominion Hawks of the class D Cape Breton Colliery League and finished as the manager of the 1947 York White Roses of the class B Interstate League.

Turchin served in the United States Navy during World War II and after baseball he worked and lived in Brookhaven, NY where he died on February 8, 1982 at 64 years of age.
