Biographical Information[edit]

Ed Reilly pitched in the Houston Astros system from 1981 to 1985. He was originally taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the 1977 amateur draft, a few picks after shortstop Gary Redus. He did not sign. He did sign after being taken by the Astros in the 27th round of the 1981 amateur draft, a few picks after catcher Jeff Datz.

Reilly began his career by going 6-1 with a 1.30 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) for the GCL Astros Orange, allowing no home runs in 69 innings pitched. He led the Gulf Coast League in earned run average, .010 ahead of Al Jones. He fell to 6-10, 3.61 in 152 innings for the Asheville Tourists in 1982, but rebounded to 8-4, 2.73 in 108 2/3 innings for the Daytona Beach Astros in 1983, allowing just two home runs. After shifting to the bullpen in 1984 and 1985, his performance declined. Overall, he went 26-16 with a 3.13 ERA in 137 games (47 starts). In 437 1/3 innings, he allowed 29 home runs.
