Biographical Information[edit]

Al Jones is the only player from Alcorn State University to appear in the major leagues as of 2006. He pitched in 27 games over three years with the Chicago White Sox, from 1983 to 1985. He was 2-1 with 5 saves and a 3.77 ERA.

He was the same age as teammates Harold Baines, Richard Dotson and Britt Burns.

He went 11-1 with the Appleton Foxes of the Midwest League in 1983, paving the way for him to jump from Class A all the way to the majors that August.

He played in the CPBL and also was pitching coach for one of the teams.
