Biographical Information[edit]

Ed McDonald played three years in the majors, serving as the regular third baseman for the Boston Braves under manager Johnny Kling in 1912. Ed was excellent at drawing walks but he also struck out a lot. In the minors, he played 15 seasons.

Born in Albany, NY, he got his pro start with the Albany Senators at age 18 in 1905. While he played in the northeastern part of the country (and in Canada) before he came to the majors, after his major league days he played in the South. He had all or part of at least nine seasons in the Southern Association, and managed two years there along with two other years managing elsewhere in the South.

A biography of Ed [1] indicates that he was very well-liked in baseball circles. He was a top defensive player who was a top baserunner.
