Biographical Information[edit]
Earl Steinmetz pitched in the minor leagues and the TML.
Steinmetz was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 26th round of the 1989 Amateur Draft, and he was 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA for the GCL Braves in his first year. He was 11-8 with a 3.42 ERA for the Sumter Braves in 1990, then he went 3-7 with a 4.00 ERA for the Durham Bulls in 1991. Steinmetz struggled in Durham in 1992 as his ERA was 5.03 in 26 appearances, and he also pitched 6 games with a 3.60 ERA for the Macon Braves. He allowed 15 runs in 11 innings in Durham in 1993, and he went 4-1 with a 3.92 ERA for the Stockton Ports.
After leaving the Braves chain, Steinmetz had a 3.88 ERA in 5 games for the Lafayette Leopards in 1994, and he also recorded a 5.47 ERA in 5 games with the San Antonio Tejanos. He went 5-13 with a 4.40 ERA for the Abilene Prairie Dogs, and he missed the 1996 season. The Taichung Agan of Taiwan then signed him in 1997, but his ERA was 9.82 in 7 games, and he was released in March. He then signed with the Houston Astros, but he only pitched 4 games with the Kissimmee Cobras. Steinmetz was 2-0 with a 2.22 ERA for the Tyler Wildcatters in 1998, and the Baltimore Orioles signed him. He had a 3.13 ERA in 13 games for the Frederick Keys, and he also pitched 4 games with a 4.43 ERA for the Newburgh Black Diamonds. Steinmetz went 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA for the Greenville Braves in 1999, and his ERA was 4.40 in 5 starts for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
