ESPN, founded in 1979, has been the home of baseball on cable television in the United States since 1990. ESPN is known for its "national game of the week" on Sunday nights, coverage of major events (such as Cal Ripken's 2131st game in 1995), live cut-ins of breaking events (i.e., the last outs of a no-hitter) and a nightly highlights program, Baseball Tonight.

It is based in Bristol, CT. Its initials stand for the "Entertainment and Sports Programming Network", although the full name is rarely used.

ESPN has a sister network which broadcasts in Spanish, called ESPN Deportes.
