Biographical Information

Dwayne Bailey played as high as AAA in a career that spanned from 2008 to 2011.

Amateur Career

Bailey came to the University of Central Florida as a transfer from junior college. He hit .232/.324/.279 as their starting second baseman and stole 19 bases in 20 tries. As a senior, he improved significantly, to .356/.422/.431 with 21 stolen bases (caught twice) and 47 runs in 56 games. He was 4th in Conference USA in steals as a junior but did not make the top 5 as a senior. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim chose him in the 21st round of the 2008 amateur draft; the scout was Tom Kotchman.

Minor league career

Bailey hit .286/.350/.333 in his pro debut with the Orem Owlz and was 7-for-8 in steal attempts. He was used as a utility infielder, playing all four positions. With the 2009 Cedar Rapids Kernels, the speedy bench player batted only .219/.333/.271 and stole successfully in all 9 attempts. He struck out in 48 of 155 at-bats and did not hit a home run.

The Tampa native bounced between four Angels farm teams and six positions (all 4 infield spots, right field and pitcher) in 2010. He hit a cumulative .188/.242/.255 in 55 games. Dwayne did better in 2011, as the utility man hit .275/.360/.365 in 57 games for the Inland Empire 66ers, .306/.403/.387 in 18 contests for the Arkansas Travelers and .224/.297/.284 in 24 games for the AAA Salt Lake Bees. He was 12-for-16 in steal attempts.

Overall, he hit .247/.330/.309 with 185 hits in 250 games.
