Biographical Information[edit]
Dutch Schliebner is one of only six major league players to have at least 500 at-bats in their only major league season. He was a 32-year-old rookie in his only season. He was acquired by the St. Louis Browns early in the 1923 season to play first base because George Sisler was out with health problems. The Browns traded Dutch Henry to the Brooklyn Robins, with whom Schliebner had played his first 19 games, to obtain him.
Although there have been 28 major league players born in Germany, most of them played before 1920. There have been only 4 players born in pre-World War II Germany who came after Schliebner. In Schliebner's major league year, he was the only German-born player.
Schliebner also played 16 seasons in the minors.
