Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Dusty Ryan was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 48th round of the 2003 amateur draft as a draft-and-follow pick. Signed by scout Tom Hinkle, he made his pro debut the following summer with the Oneonta Tigers. In 2005 with the West Michigan Whitecaps, he led all Midwest League catchers with a .990 fielding percentage. After spending the next year, 2006, back with the Whitecaps, he missed three months of the 2007 campaign due to a knee injury, appearing in 46 games with the Lakeland Flying Tigers and 6 with the GCL Tigers for an injury rehabilitation assignment.

Ryan began 2008 with the AA Erie Sea Wolves and was named to the Eastern League All-Star team. In late July, he was promoted to the Toledo Mud Hens, and he was a September call-up for the Tigers. He made his big league debut on September 4th against the Los Angeles Angels, got his first hit (a two-run home run) off Glen Perkins of the Minnesota Twins on September 7th, and notched a four-hit game against the Texas Rangers on September 17th. Overall he hit .318 in 15 games.

He was back with the Tigers late in the 2009 season, but things did not go so well this time as he was just 4 for 26 (.154) with no homer and 4 RBIs. It was his final major league stint.
