Biographical Information[edit]

Duque Hebbert has pitched for the Nicaraguan national team.

He had a 5.40 ERA as a rookie for Tren del Norte in the Nicaraguan League in 2022-2023. He then pitched twice for Nicaragua when they dominated the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Central American Qualifier for a spot in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. He debuted against Honduras, the runner-up. Relieving Ronald Medrano in the 7th, he retired Jose Francisco Cardona then whiffed tourney MVP Lombardo Padilla and Jorge Zavala. In the 8th, he retired José Bernárdez, Kevin Reyes and Guilmar Ruiz in order. Goffrey Bennett closed out the combined one-hitter. His other appearance was versus Guatemala and he was again untouchable. He succeeded Junior Téllez in the 7th and closed out a 21-0 mercy rule win by getting Daniel Molina, Juan Lopez and Ramiro Gonzalez. [1] That dominance earned him a spot on Nicaragua's team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their second-youngest player; Carlos Rodríguez was 18 days younger. His only appearance drew raves. Closing out a 6-1 loss to the Dominican national team, he replaced Joaquin Acuña and got three-time defending Silver Slugger Juan Soto to strike out, then whiffed 2022 AL Rookie of the Year Julio Rodríguez. He gave up a double to Manny Machado, one of the highest paid players in baseball, then the amateur completed the frame by getting 2022 All-Star Rafael Devers on a change-up. The brilliant outing earned him a contract with the Detroit Tigers on the spot. [2]
