Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Duane Gustavson was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the tenth round of the 1976 amateur draft. He had been on Team USA when they won the Gold Medal in the 1975 Intercontinental Cup and the Silver Medal in the 1975 Pan American Games. He played six seasons in the minors, briefly reaching the AAA level.
After his playing days, Gustavson was a coach for the Fort Myers Royals in 1982, Charleston Royals in 1983 and Memphis Chicks in 1987, in addition to managing for 4 years. He was then away from baseball for some time before returning as a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox. He has signed John Van Benschoten, Bryan Bullington, Nate McLouth, and Brian Bixler among others.
