Biographical Information

Outfielder Doug Deeds hit 14 home runs as a freshman at Ohio State University in 2000 and led the team with a .386 average, 81 hits, and 12 homers in 2002. He was then selected by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round of the 2002 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer with the Elizabethton Twins and recorded a club-leading .325 average and 48 runs scored. However, he missed the majority of the 2003 campaign after undergoing wrist surgery.

Deeds bounced back with the Fort Myers Miracle in 2004, hitting .294 with a team-high 28 doubles and 71 runs scored while tying for the Florida State League lead with 12 triples. With the New Britain Rock Cats the next year, he hit .304 with 34 doubles. Back with New Britain in 2006, he recorded a .282 average while finishing second in the Eastern League with 35 doubles. In 2007, he appeared in 86 games at the AAA level with the Rochester Red Wings, hitting .243 with 9 home runs.

Prior to the 2008 season, Deeds was traded to the Chicago Cubs, and he spent the entire summer with the AA Tennessee Smokies, posting a club-best .325 average and earning a spot on the Southern League All-Star squad. He split the following year between Tennessee and the Iowa Cubs, hitting .281 with 10 homers and 38 RBI between the two teams.

Deeds moved on to the Arizona Diamondbacks system in 2010, recording a .302 average, 39 doubles, 8 triples, and 12 home runs for the Reno Aces. Playing in the Texas Rangers chain the next year, he was limited to 55 games and hit .249 with 7 homers for the Round Rock Express. He was signed by the Los Angeles Angels organization prior to the 2012 season.
