Biographical Information

Doug Clark made it to AAA then became a college coach.

Clark signed with the St. Louis Cardinals after finishing the University of Colorado. In 1971, he played for the GCL Cardinals (7 for 14, 3 2B, 3B, 4 BB), Cedar Rapids Cardinals (.330/.355/.538 in 33 G) and St. Petersburg Cardinals (8 for 31, 2B, HR, 6 BB) in a fine intro to pro baseball. In 1972, he spent the summer with the Modesto Reds, batting .275/.364/.462 with 16 homers and 90 RBI. One negative was his 13 outfield errors, tying Dan Briggs for the lead in the California League. On the positive side, he was third in the league in RBI behind Skip James and Ed Kurpiel.

In 1973, Clark played for the Arkansas Travelers (.263/.331/.404 in 68 G) and Tulsa Oilers (.256/.335/.349, 1 HR in his 56 G at AAA). Back with the Travelers in 1974, he improved his batting line to .310/.370/.423. Moving to the Kansas City Royals system, he ended his playing career with the 1975 Jacksonville Suns, batting .230/.291/.370. He had hit .270 with 45 home runs in 516 minor league games for his career.

From 1976-2002, Clark was an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas. He then was head coach at the University of Central Arkansas from 2003-2010.

Clark's son, Cody Clark, reached the majors with the Houston Astros in 2013.
