Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Don Collins was taken 15th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1980 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Frank Wills. He spent four years in minor league ball, never playing above Single A.

His first year, with the Johnson City Cardinals and St. Petersburg Cardinals, Collins went 8-5 with a 3.84 ERA in 13 starts. He followed that with a 8-5 record and a 3.64 ERA in 24 starts for St. Petersburg in 1981 and in 1982, he was 10-8 with a 3.85 ERA in 25 starts for the Springfield Cardinals. He pitched in the Milwaukee Brewers system in 1983, going 2-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 66 1/3 innings for the Stockton Ports. Overall, he was 28-20 with a 3.71 ERA in 74 games (73 starts).
