Don Orsillo

From BR Bullpen

Don Orsillo is a play-by-play announcer who teamed with Jerry Remy for fifteen years to form the broadcasting team for Boston Red Sox baseball on NESN. He broadcast Red Sox games from 2001 through 2015, when NESN declined to renew his contract. The reasons for his dismissal were not clear, as he was popular among fans and well-respected by peers. During his last game at Fenway Park on September 28th, the stadium showed a tribute video to him on the centerfield scoreboard, but NESN declined to air it in a move that many observers described as petty.

His first Red Sox broadcast was a no-hitter by Hideo Nomo against the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore on April 4, 2001, the first by a Red Sox pitcher since Dave Morehead in 1965. He had previously been the announcer for the Pawtucket Red Sox.

After being let go by the Red Sox, he moved across the country to be a broadcaster for the San Diego Padres in 2016. He was to work both television and radio the first year before settling in as the permanent replacement for the retiring Dick Enberg on television broadcasts in 2017. When he assumed the job permanently, he worked alongside former major league pitcher Mark Grant as his analyst.

He has appeared in a number of movies including Fever Pitch (2005) and The Heat (2013), as a baseball announcer, and his voice is also used in a number of other films. He is originally from New Hampshire and grew up rooting for the Red Sox; his favorite player growing up was Dwight Evans.
