Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Dillon Head was the first-round selection of the San Diego Padres in the 2023 amateur draft, with the 25th overall pick, out of a high school in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. He was considered to be a potential major league centerfielder with elite speed and gave up a commitment to attend Clemson University in order to sign with San Diego.

In his first taste of professional baseball in 2023, he played for both the ACL Padres and Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League, putting up a slash line of .267/.363/.400 in 27 games. He returned to Lake Elsinore to start the 2024 season, hitting .237 in 21 games, then was included in a major trade on May 4th, heading to the Miami Marlins along with three other prospects - P Woo-Suk Go, 1B Nathan Martorella and OF Jakob Marsee - in return for two-time batting champion Luis Arráez. He was assigned to the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League.
