Biographical Information

Pitcher Dick Luebke appeared in ten games with the Baltimore Orioles in 1962 and posted an excellent ERA of 2.70. He was in the minors for ten seasons, primarily in the Baltimore organization,

Dick was 19 when he started in the minors in 1954, and by age 21 he began the first of three seasons with the San Antonio Missions. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1958 Rule V Draft off the roster of the Vancouver Mounties, but he was returned to the Orioles before the start of the 1959 season. He was then with the Miami Marlins and most of two seasons with the Rochester Red Wings, coming up to the majors in August 1962.

At age 27, Dick was one year younger than Orioles teammate Jim Gentile. Luebke's appearances, all in relief, included two games against the Boston Red Sox (his first two appearances) and three games against the Kansas City Athletics (his last three appearances).

Dick's last minor league stop was with the minor league San Diego Padres in 1963, and he eventually died in San Diego in 1974.

The only other major leaguer, through 2019, with the last name Luebke has been Cory Luebke.
