Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Devin Harris has played in the San Francisco Giants minor league system since 2010 (through 2014).

Harris hit .410 as a high school sophomore, .330 as a junior and .280 as a senior. He was also a star receiver in football and played basketball. He redshirted as a college freshman. In 2008, he was 2 for 12 with two walks. Despite his limited action, he got a chance in the prestigious Cape Cod League and went 1 for 15 for the Cotuit Kettleers. During 2009, he became a starter in right field and hit .344/.416/.580 with 14 homers and 48 RBI in 59 games. He tied for 7th in Conference USA in homers but was second with 65 strikeouts.

He was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 8th round of the 2009 amateur draft (between Colton Cain and Gus Benusa), but opted not to sign. He produced at a .314/.398/.589 clip with 13 HR and 53 RBI in 58 games in 2010. The 22-year-old tied for 6th in Conference USA in doubles (18), tied for 9th in home runs and tied for second in strikeouts (47). He did sign after being taken by the Giants in the 48th round of the 2010 amateur draft. The scout was Jeremy Cleveland.

He split his first pro summer between the AZL Giants (.275/.351/.392 in 14 G) and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (.273/.298/.414 in 27 G). He hit .231/.310/.414 with 15 homers for the 2011 Augusta GreenJackets, finishing 8th in the South Atlantic League with 136 K. He was 7th in the Giants chain in homers and third in whiffs (behind Chris Dominguez and Jarrett Parker). In 2012, the corner outfielder bounced between Augusta (.245/.325/.457, 39 RBI in 50 G), San Jose Giants (.185/.277/.292 in 53 G) and Fresno Grizzlies (0 for 1). He hit 12 homers in 367 at-bats that year.

After three mediocre seasons to start his career, he hit .258/.318/.492 with 23 home runs, 84 RBI and 40 doubles (he hit only 11 doubles in 2012) in 129 games for the San Jose Giants in 2013. He was 5th in the California League in home runs, led in doubles (four over Kevin Rivers) and tied Matt Duffy for 10th in RBI. He led Giants farmhands in two-baggers, 3 over Javier Herrera. He was second to Mac Williamson in HR (2 shy) and RBI (5 back). He tied Dario Pizzano for 6th in the minor leagues in doubles.
