Biographical Information[edit]
Gus Benusa has played in the minors.
Benusa hit .638 with 7 homers as a senior and led the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League in batting average. His stock rose in the weeks prior to the 2009 amateur draft after some good workouts for clubs and Benusa went in the 8th round, taken by the San Francisco Giants. He had previously had a commitment to Duquesne University; he was the first Duquesne recruit ever picked in the amateur draft. He signed (the scout was Joe DiCarlo) and debuted on June 23 with the AZL Giants, going 1 for 4 with a run against the AZL Cubs. He hit .230/.305/.284 in 21 games that year.
He missed 2010 due to injury. In 2011, he hit .297/.338/.419 in 24 contests as a backup outfielder for the AZL Giants. He split 2012 between the AZL Giants (0 for 7, 3 BB) and the Washington Wild Things (.253/.302/.361, 26 R in 42 G), the latter after the Giants let him go. It was his first action in front of a crowd as the AZL was a complex-based league. In 2013, he hit .231/.294/.333 in 32 games for the 2013 Wild Things.
