Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Deiferson Barreto played in the Toronto Blue Jays system from 2012 to 2017, peaking at Triple A -- though he played just a single game there. He spent four seasons in rookie ball and had success there, hitting .292, .300, .288 and .302 in those seasons, respectively. However, once he moved to Single A and beyond, his average tumbled -- in 2016, he hit .215 in 46 games for the Vancouver Canadians and in 2017, he hit .237 in 67 games between three clubs, including the Triple A Buffalo Bisons. Overall, he hit .272 in 325 games and he stole as many as 19 bases in a season.

After the 2017 season Barreto remained with the Blue Jays organization. It appears he served as a player/coach from 2018-2020. He coached the Dunedin Blue Jays in 2018. Based upon his transactions record [1], he probably coached at Dunedin again in 2019 and was scheduled to coach the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. Barreto served as a coach for the DSL Blue Jays in 2021-2023 and bench coach for the Vancouver Canadians in 2024.
