Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman David Washington began his professional career in 2009 after being taken out of high school by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 15th round of the 2009 amateur draft - one pick ahead of pitcher Drew Hutchison.

He had an up-and-down first few seasons, but came into his own in 2013 by hitting .261/.365/.441 with 10 home runs and a New York-Penn League-leading 50 RBI and 40 walks in 72 games for the State College Spikes to earn NYPL Mid-Season All-Star honors. He also played briefly for the Peoria Chiefs and hit .333/.600/.556 in three games. In 2014, he slugged 16 home runs between the GCL Cardinals (3 G) and Palm Beach Cardinals (89 G), but hit only .232/.311/.443. He began 2015 with the Springfield Cardinals.

Washington became a free agent following the 2016 season and signed with the Baltimore Orioles. It was with the Orioles that he made his major league debut on June 14, 2017, when 1B Chris Davis was placed on the disabled list. Facing the Chicago White Sox, he started at DH and batted 9th but went 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts. He was batting .291 with 10 homers and 26 RBIs for the Norfolk Tides at the time of his call-up. He played two more games for the O's, finishing his stint 0-for-6 with 5 Ks.
