Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher David Sullivan was drafted four times.

He was initially taken by the New York Mets in the 1st round of the 1977 January Draft-Regular Phase, a few picks after of pitcher Dave Righetti and a few ahead of shortstop John Shelby. He was then taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 1st round of the 1977 June Draft-Secondary Phase, a few picks after outfielder Hubie Brooks and few ahead of outfielder Ron Roenicke. He was taken ahead of pitcher Orel Hershiser in the 17th round of the 1979 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals. He finally signed after being taken by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the 1980 amateur draft, one pick of catcher Dwight Lowry.

His professional career lasted two seasons, 1980 and 1981. In 1980, he slashed .270/.359/.354 with 2 home runs and 36 RBI in 56 games for the GCL Astros Blue, earning a spot on the All-Star team. With the Daytona Beach Astros in 1981, he hit .258/.369/.302 with 1 home run and 25 RBI in 76 games. He hit .263/.365/.325 with 3 home runs and 61 RBI in 132 games overall.
