The GCL Astros Blue was one of two teams the Houston Astros fielded in the Gulf Coast League for 2 years.

In 1980, GCL Astros Blue was 38-24, while GCL Astros Orange was 34-28. The team was managed by Eric Swanson and finished 2nd in the 10 team league. Marc Thomas led the league with a .338 BA, while Bill Weems led with 52 R. 2B Weems, 3B Dennis Cleveland, SS Gary D'Onofrio, OF Thomas, and C David Sullivan were named to a very large All-Star team.

In 1981, again managed by Swanson, the opposite happened, Astros Blue was last 22-38, while Astros Orange was 33-28. 2B Philander Smith was named to the All-Star team.
