Biographical information

Minor league pitcher David Kopp began his professional career in 2007. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2010.

In his first year with Clemson University, 2005, he made 21 appearances (seven starts), going 4-3 with a save and a 4.61 ERA. In 2006, he went 6-2 with a 4.32 ERA in 20 games (seven starts). 2007 was his final year with Clemson, and he went 6-3 with a 3.79 ERA in 18 starts. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2nd round of the 2007 amateur draft and he signed for a bonus of $459,000. The signing scout was Mike Shildt. The pick was compensation from the Milwaukee Brewers for their signing of Jeff Suppan from St. Louis.

Kopp pitched for the Batavia Muckdogs his first season. He made two starts, going 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA in four innings - he gave up a single run, though it was unearned. In 2008, pitching for the GCL Cardinals and Palm Beach Cardinals, Kopp went 1-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 12 games (eight starts). He went 6-4 with a 3.89 ERA in 20 games (18 starts) in 2009, pitching for the Palm Beach Cardinals and Springfield Cardinals. In 2010, he went 12-9 with a 3.97 ERA in 26 starts, pitching for the Springfield Cardinals and Memphis Redbirds to earn a spot on the Texas League All-Star team and in 2011, he was 3-5 with a 6.08 ERA in 31 games (9 starts) for Springfield and Memphis. Let go by the Cardinals following the '11 campaign, Kopp signed with the Detroit Tigers and pitched for their Double-A squad, the Erie SeaWolves, in 2012 and 2013. He was 1-1 with a 6.12 ERA in 17 appearances the first season and 3-4 with a 5.44 ERA in 27 games the latter. He joined the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League for 2014, going 1-3 with 7 saves and a 3.55 ERA in 30 games.

Overall, he went 26-27 with a 4.59 ERA in 135 games (64 starts) in the non-independent minor leagues. At all levels, including independent, fall and winter leagues, he went 30-34 with a 4.54 ERA in 201 games (64 starts).

Kopp was a coach for Clemson University in 2016, Florida Southern College in 2017, and Florida International University in 2018-2021. He then moved to University of Florida in 2022.
