Biographical Information[edit]
Reliever David Eggert pitched in the Montreal Expos system from 1992 to 1994.
He was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 57th round of the 1989 amateur draft but did not sign. He did sign after being taken by the Expos in the 21st round of the 1992 amateur draft, a few slots ahead of future major leaguers Will Brunson and Aaron Guiel.
Eggert pitched for the Jamestown Expos in 1992, going 4-2 with eight saves, 72 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA in 30 games (47 2/3 innings). He had one of the best K/9 IP ratios in the New York-Penn League that year and tied for 7th in the circuit in wins. In 1993, he was 5-4 with eight saves, 83 strikeouts and a 2.83 ERA in 51 games (60 1/3 innings). He posted the 3rd best K/9 IP ratio in the Midwest League and tied Daryle Gavlick for 5th in pitching appearances. In the Expos chain, he was 6th in appearances, between Alberto Reyes and Mike Thomas. He was 3-1 with a 3.82 ERA in 40 appearances for the West Palm Beach Expos in 1994, striking out 32 in 37 2/3 innings.
Overall, Eggert was 12-7 with 19 saves and 187 strikeouts in 121 appearances (145 2/3 innings).
He died in a car crash at the age of 24.
