Biographical Information[edit]
The Milwaukee Brewers signed Dave Stapleton as an amateur free agent in 1983 and he played for the organization through 1989. He gradually climbed the minor league ladder and made his major league debut in 1987. Between 1987 and 1988 Stapleton appeared in 10 games for the Brewers and earned a 2-0 record with an ERA of 3.81. He concluded his playing career in 1989 with their AAA club.
After a couple of years away from baseball, Stapleton returned to Grand Canyon University, his alma mater, in June, 1992. He was an assistant coach for eight years and head coach from 2001-2011. Stapleton was dismissed on March 10, 2011 after his team started the year 6-12. As a head coach he had a record of 256-290 in 10-plus seasons.
In 2014 the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim hired Stapleton to manage the Orem Owlz. He has managed in the lower levels of their minor league system since then. He was scheduled to manage the AZL Angels in 2020 before the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
