Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Dave Masters was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the 1985 amateur draft, the second of two first-round picks for the Cubs that year after Rafael Palmeiro. Masters led the 1987 Eastern League with a .800 winning percentage when he went 12-3 for the Pittsfield Cubs, and was in AAA from 1988 to 1992, but never made the majors. After the 1990 season, he was traded to the Montreal Expos for Travis Chambers and added to the Expos' major league roster, but he failed to make the team out of spring training in 1991; he then struggled with the AAA Indianapolis Indians, going 4-6 with a 6.04 ERA in 27 games and was released. He was picked up by the San Francisco Giants but pitched no better. He retired after the 1993 season, which he spent in Italy.
