Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Dave Martinez was taken 5th overall by the California Angels in the regular phase of the January 1984 amateur draft, one pick after catcher Damon Berryhill and ahead of infielder Jeff Blauser. He played until 1992, spending one season in Triple A, but never made the major leagues.

He was a starter from 1984 to 1987 and in 1989, having missed all of 1988, though he had ERAs over 5 in four of those five seasons. He pitched primarily out of the bullpen in 1990, but still posted an ERA of 4.97. On December 4, 1990, he was traded with minor league pitcher Mike Hook to the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Dave Gallagher. He played for the Orioles' Triple A club, the Rochester Red Wings, in 1991, going 0-5 with a 5.28 ERA in 37 games (4 starts). He wrapped up his career in the Milwaukee Brewers chain in 1992.

Overall, Martinez went 37-51 with a 5.04 ERA in 183 games (109 starts).
