Biographical Information[edit]

Jeff Blauser was by far the most successful player to come out of the first round of the secondary phase in the 1984 draft. Of the few from that group who made the major leagues, only Blauser has a career WAR above one. He was primarily a shortstop during a 13-year major league career spent with the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs, from 1987 to 1999.

In his first three games with the Braves in 1988, he hit a game-winning double and a game-winning home run. Between 1987 and 1988, one out of every three of his hits was an extra-base hit. His 1993 season, the first of two All-Star selections, was particularly outstanding. Jeff batted .305/.401/.436, scoring 110 runs (his next best in a full season would be 90) with 15 home runs, 73 RBI, and a league-leading 16 HBP. Winning a World Series ring in 1995, he enjoyed his last All-Star season in 1997 and finished his career with two years as a member of the Cubs.

He managed the Mississippi Braves of the Southern League in 2006.
