Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Damon Berryhill was signed as a 1st round pick in the January 1984 amateur draft by the Chicago Cubs and scout Spider Jorgensen. A receiver in eleven big league seasons, Berryhill struck the game-winning home run in the sixth inning of Game 1 of the 1992 World Series to lead the Atlanta Braves past the Toronto Blue Jays, a series the Braves ultimately lost. He was named to the Topps All-Star Rookie Team as the catcher after his rookie season with the Chicago Cubs in 1988, when he batted .259/.295/.395 in 95 games. He played his last game with the San Francisco Giants in 1997 and later became a minor league coach and manager. Berryhill was scheduled to manage the Gwinnett Stripers in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19.
