Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Dasan Brown was a late addition to Team Canada's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

A native of Oakville, ON, he was drafted by his hometown team, the Toronto Blue Jays, in the 3rd round of the 2019 amateur draft and started his pro career that same year with the GCL Blue Jays. He hit .22 in 14 games, with an OBP of .444, thanks to 9 walks and 9 times being hit by pitch in 63 plate appearances. He had to sit out the 2020 season, however, as the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic. Returning to action in 2021, he spent the season with the Dunedin Blue Jays in what was called that year the Low-A Southeast, before reverting to its traditional name of "Florida State League" in 2022. He hit .212/.310/.323 in 51 games, scoring 33 runs and stealing 22 bases in 28 attempts.

He had a breakthrough season in 2022, when he was with three different teams - the FCL Blue Jays on a rehabilitation assignment, Dunedin, and the Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League. In 85 games, he hit .283/.383/.420 with 65 runs scored, 6 homers and 24 RBIs. He also stole 24 bases and was named a Blue Jays organizational All-Star after the season. On March 3, 2023, it was announced that he was replacing C/1B Andy Yerzy on Canada's roster for the upcoming WBC. He had previously played for the Canadian junior national team at the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup held in Busan, South Korea. He had hit .345/.472/.483 in that event, with a four-hit game in a loss to South Korea. He drove in eight runs in eight games in the U-18 Cup and was 3-for-3 in steals, while registering three assists from the outfield. Only Ji-chan Kim had more swipes in the tournament, while he was three RBI behind team leader T.J. Schofield-Sam.
