Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Darrell Clark spent five season in the minor leagues, from 1963 to 1967. The first four were in the Detroit Tigers organization, and the final one with the California Angels. Apart for 3 games for the Knoxville Smokies in his first season, the entirety of his career took place in Class A. He never posted huge numbers, his two best seasons being his first one, 1963, when he was 6-5, 2.45 for the Lakeland Tigers of the Florida State League before his brief promotion to AA, and in 1966, when he went 8-7, 3.02 for the Rocky Mount Leafs of the Carolina League.

He was part of a remarkable feat on May 15, 1966, with Rocky Mount, as he and roommate Dick Drago, a future major leaguer, each pitched a 7-inning no-hitter against the Greensboro Yankees. Drago won the opener, 5-0, while Clark won the second game, 2-0, with neither pitcher allowing a hit. In 125 innings that season, Clark allowed just 95 hits and struck out 95 batters, but issued 72 walks. He had previously thrown a no-no on June 3, 1964, with the Duluth-Superior Dukes of the Northern League against the Bismarck-Mandan Pards; that one lasted a full 9 innings and also finished with a 2-0 score. After the 1966 season, he was taken by the Angels in the minor league portion of the 1966 Rule V draft. Pitching for the San Jose Missions in 1967, the Angels' affiliate in the California League, but went just 1-5, 6.84, to bring his career to an end.
