Biographical Information[edit]

Daniel Rodríguez pitched in the minors and played for Mexico national baseball team.

Rodríguez was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012, and he went 3-1 with two saves and a 1.80 ERA for the DSL Blue Jays in 2013. He slumped to 1-5 with a 7.02 ERA for the GCL Blue Jays in 2014, and he had a 2-8 record with a 5.25 ERA for the Bluefield Blue Jays in 2015 (leading the Appalachian League in defeats). Rodríguez then represented Mexico in the 2015 Premier 12; the team was in a bind due to a conflict between the Mexican League and the Mexican baseball federation. As a result, they relied heavily on Mexican-Americans with the occasional Mexican under a minor league contract to a MLB team such as Daniel. He fanned three and walked two in 2 shutout innings against Japan, and he notched a save with a shutout inning against the Dominican Republic. Rodriguez then relieved Gerardo Sanchez in the 4th inning against the USA, but he surrendered a run in 1 1/3 innings. Mexico lost to Japan in the Bronze Medal Game. [1] He allowed 6 runs in an inning for the Aguilas de Mexicali in the winter.

In 2016, Rodriguez was 2-7 with a 6.18 ERA for the Vancouver Canadians (tying Tyler Phillips and Victor Concepcion for second in the Northwest League in losses), and he pitched 2 shutout innings for the Aguilas. He was 5-4 with a 4.15 ERA for the Canadians in 2017, but his ERA rose to 8.04 in 3 games with the Lansing Lugnuts. Rodriguez went 2-1 with a 5.80 ERA in 21 games for the Lugnuts in 2018, and he pitched 5 shutout innings for Vancouver while having an appearance for both the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Buffalo Bisons. The Blue Jays released him after the '18 season, and Rodriguez went 3-0 with a 4.73 ERA in Mexicali in winter ball. He then went to the Leones de Yucatan in 2019, and his ERA was 4.85 in 37 relief outings.

Rodriguez was 1-1 with a 4.04 ERA for the Algodoneros de Guasave of the 2019-2020 Mexican Pacific Winter League, and he improved to 4-2 with a 2.72 ERA there after the coronavirus shut down the minors in 2020. He then went 1-5 with a 4.42 ERA for the Leones, and his ERA was 3.65 with a 2-5 record for Guasave. Rodriguez allowed 13 runs in 10 1/3 innings with Yucatan in 2021, but his ERA was an elite 1.04 in 20 games in the winter. He struggled again for the Leones in 2023 as his ERA was 5.50 in 44 games, and he slumped to a 4.37 ERA in 12 games for the Algodoneros. Rodriguez signed with the Rieleros de Aguascalientes in 2024, and his ERA was 7.14 in 35 games.
