Biographical information

Daniel Robertson was a supplemental first-round pick in the 2012 amateur draft.

He hit .545 as a high school junior and .560 with a .696 OBP, 31 RBI and 29 walks in 27 games. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the supplemental first round of the 2012 draft. The pick, 34th overall, was compensation for the loss of Josh Willingham to free agency. He was the second of three infielders Oakland took in the first round, between Addison Russell and Matt Olson. He was assigned to the AZL Athletics and hit .297/.405/.554 with 16 walks, 25 runs and 9 errors in 29 games. He then finished the year with the Vermont Lake Monsters, hitting .181 in 26 games.

In 2013, he spent the year with the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League, where he played 101 games, hitting .277/.353/.401 with 9 homers and 46 RBIs. He had another good year in 2014, this time with the Stockton Ports of the California League, where he hit .310/.402/.471 in 132 games, scoring 110 runs and driving in 60, with 37 doubles, 3 triples and 15 homers.

On January 10, 2015, the A's traded him to the Tampa Bay Rays alongside C John Jaso and OF Boog Powell in return for 2B/OF Ben Zobrist and SS Yunel Escobar. His first season in the Rays' organization was shortened by injuries as he played 78 games in AA for the Montgomery Biscuits, and 4 more on a rehabilitation assignment with the GCL Rays. Overall, his batting line was .270/.365/.407. In 2016 he spent a full season with the Durham Bulls of the AAA International League and hit .259 in 118 games, with 5 homers and 43 RBIs.

Robertson made his major league debut with the Rays on April 4, 2017 when he went 0 for 4 as the starting DH against the New York Yankees, then moved to play shortstop for the last inning of the game. He had made the team's opening day roster as a utility infielder, essentially replacing Nick Franklin who was released at the end of spring training.
