Daniel Baca pitched in the minor leagues and for the Mexico national team.
Baca began his professional career with the San Diego Padres organization in 2003, and he had a 6.30 ERA in 5 games for the Idaho Falls Padres that season. He also represented Mexico in the 2003 Baseball World Cup. He made one appearance, relieving Francisco Madera in the 4th with a 7-0 deficit against Panama and calming things down with 2 2/3 scoreless innings (2 H, 2 BB, 3 K) before giving way to Gabriel Alvarez. Baca was 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA for the AZL Padres in 2004, tying for 6th in the Arizona League in wins. He went 1-2 with a 3.54 ERA in the AZL in 2005. He also had a 9.53 ERA in 7 games for the Eugene Emeralds, and he allowed 13 runs in 10 2/3 innings for the Lake Elsinore Storm. Baca then left the Padres organization, and he recorded a 5.30 ERA and a save in 26 games for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico. He was 3-0 with a 4.44 ERA in 2007, and he also pitched 11 games with a 6.08 ERA for the Algodoneros de Guasave in the 2008-2008 Mexican Pacific League.
The Monterrey native improved to 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 2008, and his ERA was 2.97 in 32 relief outings for the Yaquis de Obregon in the winter. He tied Mauricio Tequida and Mauro Nieblas for 7th in the LMP in appearances. Baca then slumped to 2-4 with a 6.46 ERA for the Guerreros de Oaxaca in 2009 (though his 58 games pitched were third in the Mexican League), and his ERA was 7.31 in 14 games for the Yaquis in the winter. He went 4-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 2010, and he notched 3 saves with a 2.89 ERA for the Broncos de Reynosa in 2011. Baca extended his solid performance as he got 4 saves with a 2.92 ERA in 41 games in 2012, then he went 0-3 with a 4.38 ERA for the Venados de Mazatlan in the winter. He was 2-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 54 outings in 2013, and he recorded a 3.64 ERA in 44 games in 2014. However, Baca struggled in 2015 as he allowed 5 runs in 3 innings for the Broncos, and he also had a 6.87 ERA in 17 games for the Delfines de Ciudad del Carmen and allowed a run in 2 1/3 innings for the Sultanes de Monterrey. That was his last season.
Overall, Baca was 29-25 with a 4.74 ERA and 11 saves, pitched 556 1/3 innings and struck out 367 in 13 seasons as a professional player.
