Dale Ford played two seasons in the minors.
In high school, Ford was All-State in both football and basketball. He enrolled in Washington State as a quarterback but moved to halfback after a couple years. He played in the 1965 College World Series as well. In 1965, the San Francisco 49ers took him in the 19th round of the NFL draft. The St. Louis Cardinals also picked the outfielder in the 56th round of the 1965 amateur draft. In 1966, Ford was named an All-American outfielder alongside Reggie Jackson and Jim Lyttle. While Jackson and Lyttle went in the first round of the 1966 amateur draft, Ford fell to the 20th round before the Chicago Cubs selected him.
Dale split the summer of 1966 between the Treasure Valley Cubs (3 for 4, 3B, HR) and Lodi Crushers (.228/.298/.327). In 1967, he was with the Quad Cities Angels (.269/.367/.434 in 62 G) and San Jose Bees (.268/.359/.464 in 54 G), totaling 15 home runs between the two stops. Overall, he batted .260 and slugged .424 in pro ball.
