Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Connor Van Scoyoc was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 11th round of the 2018 amateur draft, out of a high school in Cedar Rapids, IA. He played in the Angels system from 2019 to 2023, sitting out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was 2-2, 5.13 in 12 games for the AZL Angels in his professional debut in 2019, then split 2021 between the ACL Angels (the Arizona Complex League having replaced the former Arizona League as part of the 2021 Minor League Reorganization) and the Inland Empire 66ers. His combined mark was 0-3, 6.48 in 12 games.
He took a big leap forward in 2022 back with Inland Empire in the California League, finishing at 11-5, 4.28 in 23 games (22 starts), with 140 strikeouts in 120 innings. He then played for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League after the season. In 2023, he started the year with the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League where he was 4-3, 2.76 in 11 starts. On June 24th, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in return for veteran major leaguer Mike Moustakas. Ironically, the trade come shortly after the Angels had set a new franchise record for most runs in a game by demolishing these same Rockies, 25-1. In addition, he was scheduled to start the next day for the Dust Devils in Spokane against the Spokane Indians, the high-A affiliate of the Rockies, and simply left the visiting clubhouse at Avista Stadium for the home clubhouse. After four starts in the Lilac City (24 1/3 innings, 22 strikeouts, 5 walks, 3.33 ERA), he was promoted to AA on July 27 and joined the Hartford Yard Goats of the Eastern League. In eight starts for the Yard Goats, he posted a 5.62 ERA with a 2-1 record. He allowed 47 hits and 7 home runs in 41 2/3 innings.
His brother Spencer Van Scoyoc, pitched in the minor leagues.
