Biographical Information

Cole Armstrong reached AAA in 2008.

Armstrong played for the Canadian team in the 2000 World Junior Championship; his .400 average was second on the team, .014 behind Russell Martin. After college, he was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the 12th round of the 2003 amateur draft. Signed by scout Al Goetz, he was 2 for 17 with a walk for the 2003 GCL Braves. In 2004, he hit .316/.411/.471 for the Danville Braves and was named the All-Star catcher for the Appalachian League. Armstrong was third in the Appy in OBP, 4th in average and 4th in RBI (driving in 46 in 49 games).

Cole struggled for the 2005 Rome Braves, only batting .228/.283/.357. He was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the AAA phase of the 2005 Rule V Draft that winter. He split 2006 between the Winston-Salem Warthogs (.237/.322/.321 in 42 games) and Birmingham Barons (3 for 25, 2 BB), limited by a right knee injury. In 2007, he hit .288/.342/.474 with 12 HR and 39 RBI in 80 games for Winston-Salem and .239/.273/.366 in 22 for Birmingham.

Armstrong split 2008 between Birmingham (.252/.293/.413 in 64 games) and the AAA Charlotte Knights (.275/.310/.406 in 35 games). Cole was on the Canadian provisional roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Armstrong became a hitting coach with the AZL White Sox in 2014. He became a manager with the Great Falls Voyagers in 2015 and guided the Kannapolis Intimidators in 2016. He was then hitting coach of the Birmingham Barons in 2017-2018 and Kannapolis Intimidators in 2019. He also was the hitting coach for the Glendale Desert Dogs of the Arizona Fall League in 2019. Armstrong was slated to be the hitting coach for the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers in 2020 until COVID-19 caused the minor league season to be cancelled.

Armstrong was hired as head coach of the expansion Kamloops NorthPaws for 2021. The NorthPaws will play in the West Coast League which is a summer collegiate wood bat league.
