Biographical Information

Clyde Shoun started his career with the Birmingham Barons of the Southern League in 1935 where he went 12-8 in 33 games and had a 3.83 ERA. He was brought up to the Chicago Cubs late in the season and appeared in five games. He spent most of the 1936 season with the Barons again, appearing in 32 games, and had a 15-11 record with a 3.44 ERA. He also pitched in four games for the Cubs.

Shoun led the National League in games pitched in 1939 and 1940 with 53 and 54 respectively and tied for the 1939 league lead in saves with 9, along with teammate Bob Bowman. He pitched a no-hitter for the Cincinnati Reds against the Boston Braves on May 15, 1944. He entered the Navy in January 1945 and was discharged in January 1946.

Shoun pitched his last game in the major leagues in 1949, and spent the rest of the season with the American Association's Indianapolis Indians. With the Indians he pitched in 20 innings in 10 games, striking out 6 batters while walking 10 and had a 1-1 record. In 1950, Shoun played for the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League. He played in 41 games, winning 16 and losing 11 and had a 4.56 ERA.
