Biographical Information

Cleon Jones was a fixture in the New York Mets outfield from 1966 to 1974. He hit .340 in 1969 to help lead the Mets to their first world championship and .319 in 1971 but never again approached those totals. Jones became injury-prone and fell out of favor with the Mets, who released him during the 1975 season. He made the hapless Chicago White Sox as a non-roster invitee to Spring Training in 1976 but was released after playing just 12 games for the Pale Hose.

Jones was roving minor league instructor for the New York Mets in 1981 (at least).

He caught the final out of the 1969 World Series, a fly out to left field off the bat of Davey Johnson.

His first baseball card appearance was in the 1965 Topps set.
