Plateau, AL

Plateau, also known as Africatown, was formerly located in southern Alabama, on the Mobile River, immediately north of Mobile, AL to which it was later incorporated. The community was originally formed by slaves illegally imported into the United States just before the start of the Civil War. Cleon Jones was born here.
